Our Approach to Behavior

1.Individualized

BAC is tailored to diverse exceptionalities, including various intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional and behavioral disorders, and learning disabilities. We adopt a practical, individualized approach to behavior change, informed by a range of behavioral theories and the latest research. Our program effectively addresses complex behavioral needs.

2.Function-based

Behaviors do not occur in isolation. To respond effectively to a student's problem behaviors, we first identify their function by examining the context in which they arise, including antecedents and consequences. This information allows us to design interventions that reduce or eliminate the problem behavior while teaching and reinforcing appropriate alternatives.

3. Preventative

Our behavior programming focuses on prevention and proactivity. We create interventions and environments to stop problem behaviors before they arise, avoiding reactive punishment. We achieve this with a structured environment, clear positive classroom rules, visual schedules, token economies, and antecedent interventions.

4. Responsibility-driven

We aim to help our higher-functioning students with emotional and behavioral disorders understand that their behaviors are a choice. By recognizing this responsibility, they move beyond excuses and blaming others, shedding a victim mentality. This empowers them to take control of their destinies.
